The Hajrat Al Sheikh Tourist Walkway Project was introduced by the Wilayat of Wadi Al Maawil, which is situated in the South Al Batinah Governorate.

Muscat: The 1,500-meter-long and 2-3-meter-wide walkway, stretching from Hajrat Al Sheikh neighborhood to the renowned Bait Al Ghasham Museum, was inaugurated by His Excellency Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahroqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism.

Costing over RO 80,000, the project represents a remarkable community partnership involving the Office of the Governor of South Al Batinah, the South Al Batinah Municipality, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Wadi Al Maawil Municipality.

Saud bin Saeed Al Maawali, Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council in South Al Batinah Governorate, highlighted the walkway’s contribution to local tourism. The pathway links three heritage landmarks: Hajrat Al Sheikh neighborhood, Al Safalah Castle, and Bait Al Ghasham Museum. Along the route, visitors can explore the Al Washhihi Falaj and green oases dotted with palm trees, while enjoying a stone-paved path designed to harmonize with the area’s natural and cultural heritage.

The walkway incorporates 60 solar-powered lighting poles, seating areas, and Omani-run kiosks and cafes. Heritage-themed aesthetics adorn nearby farm walls, and signs along the route showcase neighborhood names, forts, rare trees, and the aflaj systems unique to the Wilayat.

Al Maawali also announced plans to extend similar projects to other villages in the Wilayat, capitalizing on the region’s scenic landscapes. Additionally, studies are underway to establish heritage inns in partnership with local farm owners, further enhancing the tourism appeal of Wadi Al Maawil.
