Oman Horizon Bulletin

Preventive health checks for newborns and those getting married will soon be part of a larger package, according to plans revealed by the Ministry of Health.
MUSCAT : The initiative, set to commence in January 2025, aims to enhance early detection of metabolic diseases in newborns and screen those planning to marry for hereditary blood diseases and infectious conditions.
The announcement follows a meeting chaired by H.E. Dr. Saeed bin Hareb Al Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs.
During the meeting, H.E. Dr. Al Lamki emphasized the importance of these expanded screenings in helping individuals and couples make informed decisions, ultimately contributing to healthier families and a stronger society.
The expanded package for couples includes screenings for both hereditary blood diseases and infectious conditions, ensuring that potential risks are identified before marriage. This will allow couples to explore medical options and make well-informed choices that best suit their needs.
