Ipswich Town Finalizes £20M Deal for Aston Villa Winger Jaden Philogene

Oman Horizon Bulletin

London, January 9 (ONA) – Ipswich Town has reached an agreement to sign Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene in a deal worth £20 million.

The 22-year-old is set to undergo a medical at Portman Road, marking the conclusion of his brief six-month stint at Villa Park. Despite attracting interest from European clubs, including those in La Liga, Philogene has opted to join Ipswich Town, with manager Kieran McKenna playing a pivotal role in securing the deal.

Earlier, Ipswich attempted to sign the England Under-21 international during the summer transfer window, agreeing to an £18 million fee with Hull City. However, Aston Villa exercised their buy-back clause, having sold Philogene to Hull in 2023. As part of the deal, Hull received £13.5 million due to a 30% sell-on clause.

Since returning to Villa Park, Philogene made just four starts, including a Champions League match against Bayern Munich, and appeared as a substitute 11 times. Despite limited game time, Ipswich maintained their interest and successfully convinced the player to join their squad this winter.

Currently 18th in the English Premier League, Ipswich Town is focused on strengthening its lineup to improve its chances of survival. Alongside Philogene, the club has also signed defender Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta, signaling their determination to turn the tide in their campaign.
