Adam Yates Secures Back-to-Back Tour of Oman Titles in 2025

Oman Horizon Bulletin

Muscat, Oman – February 2025: British cyclist Adam Yates successfully defended his Tour of Oman title, claiming victory for the second consecutive year. The thrilling conclusion of the race saw Valentin Paret-Peintre take the final and decisive stage on the challenging slopes of Green Mountain (Al Jabal Al Akhdar).

A Grueling Final Stage

The fifth and final stage of the Tour of Oman 2025 covered 139 km, starting from Imti in the Wilayat of Izki, located in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah, and finishing on the steep ascent of Al Jabal Al Akhdar. The stage was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais Al Said, Deputy Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee.

The defining moment of the stage occurred two kilometers from the finish line when Yates and Paret-Peintre broke away from race leader David Gaudu, as the incline reached a punishing 10% gradient. While Gaudu made an attempt to rejoin, Yates unleashed another powerful acceleration inside the final kilometer, forcing Gaudu to drop back.

However, Paret-Peintre stayed in contention and executed a well-timed surge after the final curve to claim the stage victory. Yates crossed the line shortly behind but had already secured his overall lead. Gaudu finished 45 seconds down, conceding his lead in the general classification.

The Challenge of Green Mountain

The final stage featured a mix of valley roads and an intense mountain climb, culminating in a six-kilometer ascent with an average gradient of 9.9%. The day’s early attacks saw 17 riders break away, including 2023 Green Mountain stage winner Mauri Vansevenant and his teammate Pepijn Reinderink. However, Yates and the top contenders ultimately set the decisive pace in the final stretch.

Final Standings

With this victory, Adam Yates pulled on the coveted red leader’s jersey, securing the Tour of Oman 2025 title with a six-second advantage over Valentin Paret-Peintre. David Gaudu slipped to third place overall, 39 seconds behind Yates.

Yates’ back-to-back triumph solidifies his dominance in the race, showcasing his climbing strength and tactical brilliance on one of the most demanding courses in professional cycling.
