Canada Unveils Full List of Retaliatory Tariffs on US Goods Worth $30 Billion
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Ottawa, February 4 – Canada’s Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc has officially released a comprehensive list of US goods that will face retaliatory tariffs, totaling an estimated USD 30 billion. The move comes in response to US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, along with an additional 10% levy on goods from China.
The newly announced Canadian tariffs will affect a range of US-made products, including:
- Alcoholic beverages
- Household appliances
- Tools and firearms
- Dairy products
- Fruits and vegetables
- Clothing and textiles
Speaking on the matter, Chrystia Freeland, a leading Canadian Prime Ministerial candidate, called the tariffs a “lose-lose” situation, stressing that they would ultimately hurt American consumers who rely on Canadian exports. “We don’t want this fight, but we will not lose it,” she declared.
In response to the backlash, President Trump acknowledged the economic impact of his tariffs but insisted that they were a necessary step to “Make America Great Again.” He admitted that the policy might cause short-term economic pain, stating, “Yes, maybe (and maybe not!) But it will all be worth the price that must be paid.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, during a press conference, confirmed that Canada’s retaliatory tariffs will take effect on Tuesday, targeting $155 billion worth of American imports.
The trade dispute has also drawn sharp criticism from China and Mexico.
- China’s Ministry of Commerce has vowed to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization (WTO), calling the US decision a “wrongful practice”.
- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo has announced Mexico’s own counter-tariffs, while also rejecting Trump’s allegations that the Mexican government has ties to criminal organizations.
The escalating trade tensions between the US, Canada, Mexico, and China signal a volatile economic landscape, with analysts warning of potential global trade disruptions in the coming months.
