Foundation Stone Laid for RO 72 Million Project to Connect Masirah Island to Oman’s Power Grid

Muscat, Oman – The foundation stone has been laid for a major power infrastructure project that will connect Masirah Island to Oman’s national power grid, marking a milestone in the country’s energy development. With an estimated cost of RO 72 million, this project is the first of its kind in Oman and is set to enhance energy reliability for residents and businesses on the island.
A Strategic Energy Initiative
Under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, the project includes:
- A 132/33 kilovolt power station to strengthen Masirah Island’s electricity supply.
- Overhead and underground transmission lines covering approximately 94 kilometers.
- Marine power cables facilitating the connection between Masirah and Mahout stations through a 400/132 kilovolt power line.
Enhancing Energy Security and Economic Growth
This initiative aims to bolster energy security on Masirah Island, reducing dependence on isolated power sources while ensuring a stable and efficient electricity supply. The project is also expected to support economic growth, foster new investment opportunities, and enhance the quality of life for local communities.
