Ajman’s new law on abandoned cars says vehicles to be auctioned after 30 days if not claimed

Oman Horizon Bulletin

Ajman has rolled out a strict new law to curb abandoned vehicles, giving owners just 30 days to claim them before they hit the auction block

UAE: Under Law No. 5 of 2024, an “abandoned vehicle” is defined as any motor vehicle left unattended in public areas for an extended period, posing risks to public health or safety, damaging Ajman’s appearance, or violating environmental regulations.

The Municipality and Planning Department is empowered to identify and impound such vehicles. A vehicle is deemed abandoned if it remains neglected for seven days following its initial identification by authorised officials.

Once impounded, owners and known creditors have 30 days to claim the vehicle or initiate legal action. Failure to act within this timeframe will result in the vehicle being listed for public auction.

The law includes provisions for owners to reclaim their vehicles before the auction is finalised by settling all accrued fines and fees.
