OCCI Labour Committee Reviews Feedback on Wage Protection System Implementation

Muscat, 27 January (ONA) – The Labour Market Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) convened its first meeting of 2025, chaired by Mohammed Hassan Al A’nasi, to address key labour market issues.
A primary focus of the meeting was the feedback from business owners regarding the application of the Wage Protection System (WPS) and the penalties associated with its implementation. The committee reaffirmed its commitment to evaluating the system’s impact on private sector establishments and exploring viable solutions that balance the interests of all stakeholders.
In collaboration with relevant authorities, the committee aims to devise practical measures that support economic growth, enhance employment generation, and ensure the sustainability of job opportunities in the Sultanate.
The committee also reiterated its dedication to monitoring the challenges faced by business owners through OCCI’s official channels. It highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation with government institutions to improve the business environment, develop policies that foster the national economy, and contribute to achieving the objectives outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
During the session, discussions included strategies to enhance the work environment and align labour market development with Oman Vision 2040. The committee reviewed its accomplishments from the previous year, focusing on the challenges encountered and the solutions implemented to address them.
Additionally, the panel emphasized its initiatives aimed at advancing labour legislation and maintaining a balanced relationship between employers and workers. It underscored the importance of sustaining these efforts to ensure a dynamic and sustainable labour market in Oman.
