With the theme “Internal Audit Innovation: Strategies for Success,” the IIA Oman Summit 2024 got underway in Muscat.
Muscat- 29 experts and specialists from over ten nations in the fields of internal auditing, governance, and computing are attending the two-day summit.
Organised by the Financial Services Authority in cooperation with the Institute of Internal Auditors in the Sultanate of Oman, the summit aims to raise awareness of the role of internal auditors in institutions to improve internal control and reduce risks, which enhances the role of internal audit in institutions.
The opening ceremony was attended by members of audit committees, chief audit executives, chief internal audit officers, risk management specialists, governance specialists, certified members of the Institute of Internal Auditors, and representatives from the Institute of Internal Auditors Global.
The summit includes several discussion sessions, as the sessions on the first day review the general landscape of internal auditing in the Sultanate of Oman, best practices of governance at work, enhancing the partnership between the board of directors and internal audit, transforming internal audit into a strategic advisor, thinking differently about the sector and stakeholders’ expectations versus reality in internal auditing, and a discussion session on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies: Impact on the Internal Audit Profession’.
The second day’s sessions will cover several topics, including: ethical challenges and blind spots, navigating the world of artificial intelligence, fraud detection in the digital age, cybersecurity and data privacy; the internal audit approach, environment, society and governance and the role of internal audit; reimagining internal audit – a future-focused approach, business continuity and crisis management; the role of internal audit, and caveats on assumptions, critical thinking and professional scepticism in practice and application.
