Oman Horizon Bulletin

Muscat, January 14 (ONA): The Ministry of Health has officially launched a National Survey on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Muscat Governorate, marking a significant step in Oman’s efforts to combat chronic illnesses and enhance public health services.
The survey was inaugurated in a formal ceremony under the patronage of Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders to achieve the objectives of this vital national initiative. He expressed confidence that the survey would lead to a transformational shift in public health strategies, ultimately improving healthcare services across the governorate.

Survey Objectives and Scope
The comprehensive field study involves visits to residential neighborhoods in Muscat Governorate to gather critical data on the prevalence of major non-communicable diseases, including:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
- Diabetes
- Chronic Respiratory Diseases
- Heart Diseases
- Cancer
By analyzing the extent of these health conditions, the survey aims to create a national database that will assist in formulating effective prevention strategies and improving medical services.
Focus on Risk Factors
In addition to assessing disease prevalence, the study will examine key risk factors that contribute to non-communicable diseases, such as:
- Unhealthy dietary habits
- Lack of physical activity
- Tobacco use and smoking
- Consumption of harmful substances
Identifying these risk factors will enable the Ministry of Health to design targeted intervention programs, raise awareness, and implement policies aimed at reducing the burden of NCDs on the healthcare system.
Aligning with Global Health Goals
This initiative underscores Oman’s commitment to aligning with both local and international health efforts aimed at preventing and controlling non-communicable diseases. By leveraging data-driven strategies, the Ministry of Health seeks to improve individual and community health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and build a sustainable and resilient healthcare system for the future.
Through this national survey, Oman is taking a proactive approach in addressing chronic diseases, reinforcing its mission to enhance public health awareness, disease prevention, and healthcare services nationwide.
