Pakistan Increases Petrol and Diesel Prices Again, Diesel Up by PKR 7 Per Litre
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Islamabad, February 4 – The Pakistan government has once again increased fuel prices for the next fortnight, with diesel prices rising by PKR 7 per litre, taking the new price to PKR 267.95 per litre, according to an official notification cited by ARY News. The price of petrol has also been increased by PKR 1 per litre, bringing it to PKR 257.13 per litre.
This latest price hike follows a series of fuel price adjustments, with the government having raised petroleum prices on January 1. At that time, the price of high-speed diesel was increased by PKR 2.96 per litre, while petrol saw a smaller hike of 56 paisas per litre. The previous price adjustment had set petrol at PKR 252.66 per litre and diesel at PKR 258.34 per litre.
Rising Fuel Costs and Economic Impact
The steady rise in petroleum prices has been attributed to the government’s failure to reduce the petroleum levy, which has significantly contributed to higher fuel costs. Over the past six weeks, fuel prices in Pakistan have surged by PKR 12.14 per litre, adding to the financial strain on consumers and businesses.
Opposition parties have strongly condemned the government’s handling of the situation, arguing that the continued fuel price hikes are worsening inflation and making it harder for ordinary citizens to afford basic necessities.
Opposition Criticism
- Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman called the fuel price hikes “shameful”, accusing the government of failing to provide relief to the public and the industrial sector.
- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other opposition leaders have criticized the government for raising prices despite declining international oil rates.
With fuel costs continuing to rise, concerns are mounting over the impact on transportation, inflation, and the overall economy, as Pakistani citizens struggle to cope with increasing living expenses.
