Oman Establishes ‘Net Zero Centre’ to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Oman has announced the creation of a “Net Zero Centre” as part of its strategy to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. This center will play a pivotal role in advancing the country’s zero-emission goals, focusing on developing and monitoring strategies for sustainability and energy efficiency projects.
The Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Nasser Al Aufi, highlighted that the center will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of Oman’s net-zero plans. It will actively monitor progress, provide technical support to both government and private entities, and ensure that all sectors meet their sustainability targets.
The Net Zero Centre will also be tasked with introducing cutting-edge international practices and technologies to Oman. This includes supporting scientific research, fostering innovation, and enhancing the country’s capacity in sustainability practices. The center will also handle carbon, hydrogen, and low-carbon product certifications by reviewing applications and issuing relevant certificates in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Environment Authority.
Additionally, the center will manage carbon credit trading registration and approvals, ensuring compliance with global carbon credit frameworks, as explained by Al Aufi. This initiative is part of Oman’s broader commitment to sustainable development and achieving environmental neutrality by mid-century.
