Coal India Partners with EDF India for Renewable Energy and PSP Projects

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has signed an agreement with EDF India Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Électricité de France SA (EDF), to establish a joint venture focused on renewable energy and pumped storage power (PSP) projects.
According to a filing with the stock exchange, the collaboration will drive renewable energy initiatives in India and neighboring countries, supporting the nation’s transition towards clean energy. The move aligns with India’s broader sustainability goals, aiming to integrate green power solutions into the energy sector.
EDF, a global leader in low-carbon energy solutions, brings technical expertise and advanced infrastructure to the partnership. The joint venture will explore pumped storage hydropower projects along with other renewable energy developments, leveraging Coal India’s resources and EDF’s global experience in clean energy projects.
On Sunday, both companies signed a Non-Binding Shareholders Agreement (SHA) term sheet, marking a significant step towards executing their long-term renewable energy strategies.
The partnership is expected to enhance India’s renewable energy capacity, provide a sustainable alternative to conventional power sources, and contribute to the country’s energy security and carbon reduction goals.
