Small Plane with Two Aboard Crashes Near Shopping Center in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, January 30 – A small private jet carrying two individuals crashed near a shopping center in Northeast Philadelphia, triggering a large-scale emergency response on Tuesday evening.

Flight Details and Crash Location

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft, identified as a Learjet 55, had departed from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri when it crashed around 6:30 p.m. local time. The crash site was reported near Cottman and Bustleton Avenues, across from Roosevelt Mall, leading to road closures in the surrounding area, including parts of Roosevelt Boulevard.

Emergency Response and Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken the lead in investigating the crash, with assistance from the FAA. Officials are currently working to determine the cause of the incident and assess the extent of damage.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that he had spoken with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker and assured that the state was closely monitoring the situation.

“I’ve spoken with @PhillyMayor, and my team is in communication with @PhillyPD, @PhilaOEM, and @PhillyFireDept. We are offering all Commonwealth resources as they respond to the small private plane crash in Northeast Philly,” Shapiro wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Eyewitness Accounts and Public Advisory

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) labeled the incident as a “major emergency,” advising residents and commuters to avoid the area while authorities worked at the crash site.

Casualty Reports and Ongoing Investigation

As of now, authorities have not released any information on casualties. However, videos circulating on social media depict vehicles engulfed in flames and emergency crews rushing to the scene.
