Oman Horizon Bulletin

MUSCAT, 13 Feb 2025 – Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal is set to captivate audiences worldwide with his portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the much-anticipated historical epic ‘Chhaava’, releasing tomorrow, including in Oman.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kaushal spoke about the emotional depth and intensity of his role, shedding light on the challenges of bringing the legendary warrior-king’s story to the big screen.

A Story of Unwavering Courage

Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of the great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, was known for his resilience and indomitable spirit. His tragic fate at the hands of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, after enduring weeks of brutal torture, remains one of history’s most heart-wrenching tales.

Kaushal emphasized that while many know how Sambhaji Maharaj’s story ends, the real power of ‘Chhaava’ lies in depicting how he faced his final moments. “I still can’t comprehend how someone could endure such suffering and yet refuse to surrender their beliefs,” he said.

A Stellar Cast and Historical Authenticity

Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film is based on the acclaimed Marathi novel ‘Chhaava’ by Shivaji Sawant. Vicky Kaushal leads the cast as Sambhaji Maharaj, while Akshaye Khanna takes on the role of Aurangzeb. The film also stars Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Rashmika Mandanna, and Diana Penty in key roles.

Vicky Kaushal’s Passion for the Role

Kaushal, who is marking 10 years in the industry in 2025, has built a reputation for his intense performances in films like ‘Raazi’ and ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’. He described filming the most emotionally taxing scenes of ‘Chhaava’ as an experience that put him in “a trance.”

“I’m glad we shot those scenes in one stretch because it demanded everything from me as an actor,” he shared. “It was something I had never experienced before.”

A Legacy That Lives On

Kaushal expressed the significance of keeping Sambhaji Maharaj’s story alive, even 350 years after his time. “This is a tale that must be remembered and celebrated for generations—whether through cinema, books, or any other art form,” he said.

With ‘Chhaava’, Bollywood brings a long-overdue spotlight to one of India’s most valiant warriors, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire audiences around the world.
