South African Squad Arrives in Lahore for ODI Tri-Series Against Pakistan and New Zealand

Lahore: The South African cricket team, led by Temba Bavuma, arrived in Lahore on Friday ahead of the much-anticipated ODI tri-series featuring Pakistan and New Zealand. The series serves as crucial preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19.

South Africa Gears Up for the Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video on social media, welcoming the Proteas to Lahore. South Africa’s white-ball coach, Rob Walter, recently announced a 12-member squad for the opening match, featuring a mix of experienced players and fresh talent.

Among the key names, Gerald Coetzee makes his return after recovering from an injury sustained during a Test match against Sri Lanka on November 27, 2024. The squad also includes six uncapped players, including Meeka-eel Prince, Gideon Peters, Eathan Bosch, and Mihali Mpongwana, alongside Matthew Breetzke and Senuran Muthusamy, who have prior international experience.

Following the conclusion of the ongoing SA20 league in South Africa, the squad is expected to be updated, with key players like Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen set to join from the second match of the series.

Tri-Series Schedule and Venue Details

The tri-series will commence on February 8 with New Zealand taking on Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. South Africa will play their first match against the Kiwis on February 10 in a day match.

The action then shifts to Rawalpindi and Karachi, where Pakistan will face South Africa in a day/night encounter on February 12. The final of the tournament will be held in Karachi on February 14, just five days before the ICC Champions Trophy kicks off.

Temba Bavuma (captain), Eathan Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Gerald Coetzee, Junior Dala, Wiaan Mulder, Mihlali Mpongwana, Senuran Muthusamy, Gideon Peters, Meeka-eel Prince, Jason Smith, Kyle Verreynne.

The tri-series promises exciting cricket action, with all three teams looking to fine-tune their squads ahead of the global tournament.
