New Delhi: The Indian fashion industry is mourning the loss of legendary designer Rohit Bal, who passed away on November 1 at the age of 63.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) announced his demise through an official Instagram post, expressing deep sorrow:
“We mourn the loss of the iconic designer Rohit Bal, a founding member of FDCI. Renowned for his extraordinary ability to blend traditional motifs with contemporary aesthetics, his work revolutionized Indian fashion and inspired countless designers. His artistic legacy and visionary contributions will forever resonate in the world of fashion. Rest in peace, GUDDA.”

Rohit Bal, affectionately known as “Gudda,” was a trailblazer whose creations combined heritage and innovation. His health had been fragile in recent years, and in 2023, he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Delhi for heart-related issues. Following his recovery, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his supporters, stating:
“Your love and prayers have been my strength. As I heal, I’m reminded of the resilience of our shared dreams. The show must go on.”

Despite health challenges, Bal made a remarkable return to the runway in October 2024, unveiling his collection Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe at Lakmé Fashion Week’s grand finale. His ability to captivate audiences with timeless designs cemented his reputation as a true visionary.

Born in Srinagar, Rohit Bal’s unparalleled contributions to Indian fashion leave a lasting legacy. His passing creates a void in the industry that will be felt for years to come.

The fashion fraternity, admirers, and aspiring designers alike are paying tribute to the man who redefined Indian couture and celebrated its rich cultural heritage on global platforms.
