Muscat – The meeting, which aims to exchange views on regional and global issues, also focused on Oman’s development trajectory and the country’s foreign policy in line with ‘Oman Vision 2040’.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Minister praised the continuous efforts of the heads of missions and their teams in strengthening bilateral relations and expanding Oman’s partnerships with countries and international organizations. He commended their role in maintaining a steady course for diplomatic ties, enhancing Oman’s presence on the global stage.
The discussions highlighted key political developments, particularly in the Middle East. He reiterated Oman’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and affirmed that “the Palestinian people alone have the final say in determining the form of sovereignty of the Palestinian state they seek.”
The Minister also expressed appreciation for countries that have moved towards formal recognition of the State of Palestine, noting that such actions strengthen the global majority advocating for Palestinian sovereignty.
The tragic situation in Gaza was a focal point of the meeting, with a special focus on the suffering of the Palestinian people amidst ongoing military operations by Israeli forces, which have been criticized for violating international law and humanitarian norms. The situation in Lebanon was also discussed, with an emphasis on regional stability and humanitarian concerns.
On the subject of global governance, His Excellency highlighted the need for reforming the United Nations Security Council, particularly the veto power held by permanent members. He remarked that “this system, dating back to the Cold War era, constitutes a barrier to achieving international justice,” adding that it continues to protect the interests of one state while undermining global peace and the rule of international law.
Turning to domestic matters, the Minister provided an update on Oman Vision 2040, the country’s strategic roadmap for sustainable development. He emphasized the flexibility of Oman’s economy, which is increasingly focused on diversification, innovation, and technology.
