Mumbai Police nab minor over bomb threats to flights, including one to Muscat

Oman Horizon Bulletin

A minor has been arrested for allegedly posting bomb threats to three flights from India’s financial capital, Mumbai, including one to Muscat.

MUMBAI: India’s aviation minister confirmed the arrest, revealing that the individual, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, is under 18. Local reports indicate that the threats originated from an account on social media platform X, specifically targeting two IndiGo flights—one bound for Muscat and another for Jeddah—as well as an Air India flight heading to New York, claiming armed militants were on board.

This month has seen a spate of similar threats across the airline industry, with at least eight flights of leading carrier IndiGo receiving alarming messages. In addition, three flights from SpiceJet, two from Vistara, and four from Air India were also implicated in the online threats, raising serious concerns among authorities.

In a related incident, Air India’s flight from New Delhi to Chicago was forced to divert to Canada on Wednesday following a “security threat posted online.” Passengers were subsequently transported to their original destination by a Canadian Air Force plane, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
