India Dominates England with 142-Run Victory, Secures ODI Series Clean Sweep
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Ahmedabad, India – February 2025: India wrapped up a dominant ODI series against England with a comprehensive 142-run victory in the third and final match at Narendra Modi Stadium. A stellar batting display from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Virat Kohli, combined with an exceptional bowling performance, helped India complete a 3-0 series whitewash ahead of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
India’s Batting Brilliance
After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, India faced an early setback as captain Rohit Sharma departed for just one run off Mark Wood’s bowling. However, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli steadied the innings, forging a crucial 116-run partnership.
Gill, in outstanding form, played fluently, reaching his seventh ODI century, scoring 112 off 102 balls, including 14 boundaries and three sixes. Kohli provided solid support with 52 runs off 55 balls, his innings featuring seven fours and a six before falling to Adil Rashid, who once again troubled him with his spin.
Shreyas Iyer continued the momentum, striking a quickfire 78 off 64 balls. Late contributions from Hardik Pandya (17), KL Rahul (40), and Axar Patel (13) propelled India to a formidable total of 356 in 50 overs.
Adil Rashid was the pick of England’s bowlers, taking 4/64, while Mark Wood (2/45) provided crucial breakthroughs.
England’s Struggle in the Chase
Chasing 357, England got off to an aggressive start, with Ben Duckett (34) and Phil Salt (23) putting on 60 runs in just 6.2 overs. However, Arshdeep Singh removed Duckett, followed by Salt, shifting momentum in India’s favor.
Tom Banton (38) and Joe Root (24) tried to anchor the innings, but Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, and Harshit Rana ripped through the middle order. England crumbled from 126/3 to 193/9. A late cameo from Gus Atkinson (38 off 19 balls) wasn’t enough as England was bowled out for 214 in just 34.2 overs.
Series Triumph and Key Performers
India’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance, with Axar Patel (2/22), Arshdeep Singh (2/35), and Kuldeep Yadav (1/40) leading the attack. This victory sealed a 3-0 ODI series sweep, following India’s 4-1 win in the T20I series, marking a successful start for head coach Gautam Gambhir.
As India prepares for the Champions Trophy, their dominant performances in all departments underline their status as one of the tournament favorites.
