Israel Strikes Hezbollah Weapons Sites in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Beirut, Lebanon – Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on two sites in Lebanon allegedly housing Hezbollah weapons, despite an ongoing ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
Israeli Strikes Target Hezbollah Positions
In a statement released late Thursday, the Israeli military confirmed it had carried out precision strikes on Hezbollah’s weapons storage facilities in Lebanese territory. The attack was justified on the grounds that the presence of such weaponry was a violation of the truce.
The military added that it remains committed to responding to any security threats, emphasizing that Hezbollah’s continued military activity along the border is a breach of the ceasefire deal.
Background of the Conflict
Hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah intensified on October 8, 2023, following Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel, which triggered a regional escalation. Although the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah had been sporadic in the past, the situation rapidly deteriorated, leading to months of cross-border clashes.
Ceasefire Agreement Extended Until February
A truce agreement was brokered in November 2024 after 13 months of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed armed group. Under the terms of the ceasefire:
- Hezbollah was required to withdraw north of the Litani River in Lebanon.
- Israel was to gradually pull back south of the Blue Line within 60 days.
However, both sides have accused each other of violating the terms of the agreement.
Ongoing Tensions and International Response
The White House confirmed last month that the ceasefire had been extended until February 18, but the latest Israeli airstrikes indicate rising tensions. The international community, including UN peacekeeping forces, has urged both sides to exercise restraint and adhere to the ceasefire.
Despite diplomatic efforts, the situation remains fragile, with concerns that continued border clashes could lead to a renewed escalation in the region.
