Supreme Judiciary Council Highlights Judiciary Functions and Supreme Court Powers

Muscat, February 2 – The Supreme Judiciary Council of Oman today provided an in-depth review of the judiciary’s role and the Supreme Court’s powers during an engagement with a delegation from the National Defence College (NDC). The session was part of the 12th National Defence Course, aimed at enhancing understanding of Oman’s judicial system and its contribution to national security.

Judiciary as a Pillar of Justice and Security
Sayyid Khalifa bin Said Al Busaidi, Chairman of the Supreme Court, emphasized in his address that litigation is a fundamental and protected right for all citizens. He reaffirmed the independence of the Omani judiciary, underscoring the state’s continuous support in ensuring justice and legal integrity. Furthermore, he highlighted the judiciary’s role in maintaining national security and stability, which are essential to safeguarding the homeland.
Judicial Structure and Legislative Developments
Issa Hamad Al Azri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Judiciary Council, presented an overview of Oman’s judicial evolution, detailing advancements in legal frameworks, judicial structures, and legislative reforms. His presentation focused on how Oman’s judicial system has adapted to modern legal challenges while upholding fairness, transparency, and efficiency in legal proceedings.

Strategic Collaboration with National Defence College
The session was attended by Rear Admiral Ali Abdullah Al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College, along with senior officials from the Supreme Judiciary Council. The discussions underscored the judiciary’s crucial role in reinforcing national security strategies through legal frameworks and governance.
