His Majesty Sultan Haitham Chairs Supreme Judicial Council Meeting, Emphasizes Judicial Reforms and Investment Growth

Muscat, 27 January (ONA) – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik presided over a significant meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council at Al Barakah Palace, where he outlined pivotal directives aimed at strengthening Oman’s judiciary and promoting a justice system that aligns with the aspirations of citizens, residents, and investors.

At the commencement of the meeting, His Majesty highlighted the judiciary’s vital role in upholding justice and fostering the principles of law and order. He emphasized the necessity of continuously modernizing the judicial system to address the evolving needs of society and align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

In his remarks, His Majesty stressed the importance of delivering prompt justice by expediting litigation processes, reducing the time taken for adjudication, and preventing the backlog of unresolved cases. He also underscored the role of technology in achieving these goals, urging the development of a robust digital infrastructure for the judicial sector.

His Majesty praised the Supreme Judicial Council’s 2024-2040 strategy, which aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the judiciary. He directed the immediate implementation of the strategy’s operational plans, noting that this would significantly improve judicial services and align them with international standards.

Commending the judiciary for its progress, His Majesty expressed satisfaction with the “qualitative shift” observed in the sector’s operations. He highlighted how the judiciary has met the expectations of citizens, residents, and investors by offering high-quality services supported by modern technological advancements.

His Majesty extended his gratitude to the members of the Supreme Judicial Council, as well as judges, members of the Public Prosecution, and notary publics, for their dedication to upholding integrity and excellence in their duties. He directed the Council to intensify professional training programs for judges and employees to ensure they remain abreast of legal and technological developments.

To further strengthen Oman’s investment climate, His Majesty issued directives for the establishment of a specialized “Court of Investment and Trade.” This court will focus on expediting the resolution of investment and commercial disputes in a professional manner. His Majesty emphasized that this initiative reflects Oman’s commitment to enhancing its investment environment, attracting foreign capital, and supporting commercial growth by ensuring the rights of litigants are protected under a specialized judiciary.

Additionally, His Majesty directed the Supreme Judicial Council to finalize its organizational structure. This measure aims to enhance the Council’s capacity to provide judicial services that reinforce trust in the rule of law and contribute to the nation’s socio-economic stability.

Concluding the meeting, His Majesty reaffirmed his unwavering support for the judiciary’s independence. He underscored the Supreme Judicial Council’s integral role in fostering national stability and sustainable development. Furthermore, His Majesty stressed the importance of collaboration between state institutions to achieve a cohesive national vision for justice in the Sultanate of Oman.
