Multan: The West Indies cricket team made history by securing their first Test victory on Pakistani soil in 34 years, leveling the two-match series 1-1 with a commanding performance in Multan.
This landmark win marks their first triumph in Pakistan since 1990, when they last tasted victory in Faisalabad under the leadership of the legendary Desmond Haynes.
The victory holds significant importance for the West Indies, as they now move above Pakistan in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings, claiming the eighth position with a points percentage (PCT) of 28.21, narrowly surpassing Pakistan’s PCT of 27.98.
The contest was tightly fought, with West Indies managing to secure a slender 9-run lead at the end of the first innings on Day 1. The bowling performances from Noman Ali (6/41) for Pakistan and Jomel Warrican (4/43) for the West Indies were the highlights of the opening exchanges.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite anchored his team’s second innings with a composed knock of 52 off 74 deliveries, helping them post a total of 244 and setting Pakistan a target of 253 runs by tea on Day 2.
Pakistan’s run chase began on a shaky note as they lost both openers within the first three overs. Babar Azam’s 31 off 67 balls provided some stability, but by the end of Day 2, Pakistan found themselves struggling at 76/4.
Day 3 belonged to West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican, who delivered a match-winning spell with figures of 5/27. He dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup, including a sensational delivery that bowled Kashif Ali in the 26th over and later dismissed Mohammad Rizwan in the 42nd over to seal the historic win.
Warrican’s stellar performance earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series honors, having taken a total of nine wickets in the second Test. His contribution was instrumental in securing West Indies’ first Test win in Pakistan in over three decades.
