Barcelona Defeats Athletic Club to Secure Spot in Spanish Super Cup Final
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Jeddah, January 9 (ONA) – Barcelona triumphed over Athletic Club in a thrilling semi-final at the Spanish Super Cup, securing their place in the final with goals from Lamine Yamal and Gavi.
The match, held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia, saw Barcelona take an early lead in the 17th minute. Gavi calmly slotted the ball into the net after receiving a precise pass from Alejandro Balde.
Barcelona doubled their advantage early in the second half when teenage sensation Lamine Yamal skillfully controlled a chipped pass and drove the ball past goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Athletic Club nearly found the back of the net in the final minute of normal time when Inaki Williams scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
Barcelona is now set to face the winner of the Real Madrid vs. Mallorca match, which takes place later tonight, in Sunday’s final.
Notably, this match came too soon for Barcelona’s recent signings, Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, to make their debut. The players had only been registered for the first half of the season due to La Liga’s wage cap restrictions. While both players received provisional clearance from the Spanish national sports council (CSD) following an appeal by the club, they were unavailable for the semi-final.
However, with the precautionary measure in place, the duo may make their debut in Sunday’s final, potentially bolstering Barcelona’s squad as they compete for the Spanish Super Cup title.
