Syria’s New Government Aims for Inclusivity, Says Foreign Minister

Oman Horizon Bulletin

RIYADH: Syria’s Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani, stated in a meeting with Saudi officials that the newly-formed government in Damascus seeks to establish a leadership that represents all sectors of Syrian society. This comes after the recent ousting of Bashar Al-Assad last month.

Al-Shibani’s visit to Saudi Arabia marks the first foreign trip by a member of the new Syrian administration, as the international community watches closely to see if the new government will adopt strict Islamic rule or embrace inclusivity.

During his visit to Riyadh, Al-Shibani, alongside Syria’s Defence Minister, met with Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman.

“We shared our vision for a government that is based on partnership and efficiency, inclusive of all Syrian groups. Our goal is to implement an economic development plan that fosters investment, builds strategic partnerships, and enhances living and service standards,” Al-Shibani expressed in a post on X.

Since the removal of Assad on December 8, rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) has aimed to assure both Arab nations and the global community that their leadership will be inclusive, representing all Syrians and avoiding the export of revolution.
