Louise Trotter Steps Into the Spotlight as Bottega Veneta’s New Creative Director

Oman Horizon Bulletin

In a major shake-up within the fashion industry, Bottega Veneta announced on Thursday that Matthieu Blazy, who has been at the creative helm for three years, is stepping down. Blazy is rumored to be taking on the coveted role of creative director at Chanel.

Bottega Veneta has named Louise Trotter, the current designer of French luxury brand Carven, as Blazy’s successor. Trotter will officially assume her new position at the Italian fashion house in January 2025, becoming the sole female creative director within Kering, the luxury group behind Gucci, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga.

Known for her minimalist yet luxurious designs, Trotter transformed Carven into a brand synonymous with accessible elegance and modern craftsmanship. “Her exquisite sense of design and commitment to cultural advocacy perfectly align with our vision for Bottega Veneta,” said Leo Rongone, CEO of the brand, in a statement.

A House in Transition

Trotter will inherit a thriving brand that Blazy helped elevate during his tenure. Under Blazy’s leadership, Bottega Veneta introduced fine jewelry and a gender-neutral fragrance, both of which became signature offerings. The brand also experienced steady financial growth, with third-quarter revenues reaching nearly 400 million euros ($416.6 million), a 4% increase.

Blazy’s innovative approach garnered widespread acclaim, earning him nominations for Designer of the Year at the 2022 and 2023 Fashion Awards. His designs were embraced by high-profile celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Yeoh, Jacob Elordi, and Julianne Moore.

Louise Trotter’s Vision

Trotter, 55, brings extensive experience to Bottega Veneta, having previously held creative director roles at Lacoste and Joseph. Her design philosophy emphasizes timeless elegance, material quality, and silhouette mastery, drawing comparisons to Phoebe Philo’s work at Celine and The Row.

While Trotter’s aesthetic is more understated than Blazy’s experimental approach, her refined style is expected to bring a sense of stability and sophistication to the brand. “I am deeply honored to join Bottega Veneta and continue celebrating its timeless vision,” Trotter said in a statement.

Challenges Ahead

Trotter’s appointment marks Bottega Veneta’s third creative director in five years, reflecting the turbulence within the fashion industry. Over the past year alone, eight major brands have announced leadership changes. Despite these challenges, Trotter’s experience and focused approach offer reassurance for the brand’s future.

Fashion enthusiasts can expect her debut collection in October 2025 during Milan Fashion Week, signaling a new chapter for Bottega Veneta under her leadership.
