Private labs are urged by Oman’s MOCIIP to adhere to accuracy criteria.

Oman Horizon Bulletin

Private laboratories have received a strict mandate from Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion’s Directorate General of Standards and Metrology.

Muscat: The Directorate General of Standards and Metrology, representing the Ministry, has emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines set out by Ministerial Resolution No. (2011/59). The regulations aim to maintain the integrity of results in testing and calibration services offered by private laboratories.

The Ministry has laid out several key requirements to strengthen transparency and credibility between laboratories and consumers. Private labs must secure international accreditation in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025, a global standard for testing and calibration. They are also required to conduct tests and calibrations only in areas and data authorized by the Ministry’s Accreditation Office.

Further, the Ministry stresses the importance of complying with terms when contracting with other laboratories and ensuring all other provisions of the regulation are met.

The Ministry confirms that it will take the necessary legal measures if any of the regulation’s provisions are found to be violated.
