Oman’s Health Ministry Begins Pilot Testing for National NCDs Survey Phase 2
Oman Horizon Bulletin

Muscat, 20 Feb: The Ministry of Health has officially launched a pilot field survey for the second phase of the National Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Survey, conducting visits to selected households across the country.
Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation, participated in the pilot study alongside Dr. Jean Jabbour, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Oman, and multiple survey teams.
In preparation for this phase, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the WHO, conducted an extensive training program earlier this week for the field teams involved in the survey. This five-day program included 165 teams from various governorates, equipping them with the necessary skills to carry out the survey in alignment with global health standards.
As part of the training, a pilot test is being conducted on selected households to evaluate the efficiency and accuracy of data collection methods before commencing the full-scale survey. The second phase of the NCD survey is set to officially begin in April and will continue for three months.

The survey aims to gather precise data on the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and associated risk factors within Oman’s population. The information collected will play a crucial role in shaping public health policies and improving disease prevention strategies.
The initial phase of the survey, which started on December 29, 2024, focused on updating household lists across different governorates to ensure a representative sample for data collection.
During the second phase, selected households will participate in health assessments that include structured questionnaires, clinical measurements such as height and weight, and medical tests to check blood pressure, glucose levels, and cholesterol levels.
Authorities emphasize the importance of community participation in the survey to ensure accurate data collection and effective healthcare planning. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with survey teams and contribute to national efforts in combating non-communicable diseases.
