How two young Dubai brothers transformed an internet domain transaction into a charitable endeavor

Oman Horizon Bulletin

After a techie’s wager on the JioHotstar domain turned into a chance to finance his schooling, two exceptional young people from Dubai decided to lend a hand.

Reliance Industries has gained significant recognition in India, particularly in the OTT space with JioCinema, and is now set to make waves with the expected acquisition of Disney+ Hotstar. However, their plans have taken an unexpected turn due to the acquisition of a key domain name.

A Delhi-based app developer, anticipating this merger, made a strategic move by purchasing the potential domain name that could become the official website post-purchase. What he thought would be a gamble turned into a serious matter. The techie, whose identity remains unknown, contacted Reliance Industries, offering to sell the domain for over one crore, with the intention of using the proceeds to fund his executive MBA at Cambridge University.

However, after receiving this offer, Reliance reportedly threatened the developer with legal action, stating that no negotiations would be entertained. Undeterred, the developer eventually sold the domain to two young Dubai residents—13-year-old Jainam Jain and 10-year-old Jivika Jain—who decided to take it on as a meaningful project. The siblings, after acquiring the domain, updated the website on Saturday, sharing their purchase and expressing their support for the developer’s educational ambitions.

In an inspiring message, Jainam and Jivika explained their decision to help the developer, reflecting on their time in India, where they were shown kindness and generosity by others. They thought of using their funds, which were collected during their “Seva journey” in India, to help the developer. They hoped their small contribution would inspire others to assist those in need.

The siblings’ story has been a testament to their belief that age is just a number when it comes to making a difference. “People often say we’re breaking age norms, but we believe age is just a number. What matters is the passion you put into what you do,” they shared. Despite being just 12 and 10 years old, they organized over 120 events across schools, colleges, and NGOs in India, impacting over 50,000 children.

Reflecting on the influence of Dubai on their mission, they mentioned that the city’s visionary leaders and dynamic community have played a significant role in shaping their journey. The spirit of achievement, as embodied by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s words, has motivated them to expand their efforts and connect with more young people across the Gulf.

The developer’s entrepreneurial dreams have taken an unexpected turn, now connected to the philanthropy of two young Dubai residents. Jainam and Jivika, inspired by the opportunity to help, continue their mission of making a difference. They see their actions as part of a broader message: “Take small challenges—they can lead to something big. Give back to society; it’s the rent we pay for our place in the world. Be the change you want to see.”

In closing, they also encouraged parents to foster a love for reading in their children, believing that books can help them excel. As the story continues to unfold, Jainam and Jivika are setting an example for others, showing that age is no barrier to making a meaningful impact.
