In Oman, former Indian Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani is promoting the recently released book “Modialogue: Conversations for a Viksit Bharat,” which was written by Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Executive Director of AMESA at QS Quacquarelli Symonds….

Muscat – The book, which explores key conversations around India’s development, was launched at an event held in Muscat, supported by the Modern College of Business and Science.

Following the launch, Irani took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her deep appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tribute to the Indian diaspora in Oman, particularly the community from Kutch, Gujarat. She shared that the Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of their deep-rooted heritage made her visit even more meaningful.

In a related development, the Indian Embassy in Oman, in collaboration with the National Archives of India, has initiated a project to preserve the history of Indian families who have been residing in Oman for centuries. This initiative involves collecting and digitizing historical documents, including letters, photographs, and other memorabilia. The project aims to document the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the Indian diaspora in Oman.

It includes an extensive effort to collect thousands of documents, some dating as far back as 1838, which chronicle the lives, struggles, and triumphs of the Indian community in Oman. An integral part of this initiative is the ‘Oral History Project,’ where members of the diaspora share their personal stories, shedding light on their lives and their evolving relationships with the Omani people.

This initiative was notably featured in the 116th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the popular program hosted by PM Modi, where he discussed the digitization of diaspora documents and its role in preserving the heritage of Indian families abroad.
