Applications for fishing licenses are now being accepted, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources.
Muscat – This initiative will allow individuals, companies, and institutions in the fisheries sector to apply for advanced fishing boat licenses. The application period will run from November 24, 2024, to December 24, 2024.
As per the eligibility criteria for individuals, applicants must be Omani nationals, at least 18 years old, and physically fit to practice the fishing profession. The applicant must have a valid fishing profession license for at least three years, except for graduates from maritime colleges, and must be solely engaged in the fishing profession and provide proof from the Ministry of Labour to confirm they are not employed in any other profession.
As far as companies are concerned, institutions must meet the Omanisation requirements as per the Ministry of Labour and submit proof of financial solvency, including audited financial statements. Companies must be 100% Omani-owned, and none of the partners should have been convicted of any violations related to the Living Aquatic Resources Law within the last two years.
Additionally, companies must own a licensed factory for processing fish products or manufacturing value-added products, along with a fish quality control certificate. Besides, all fishing vessels must adhere to the technical standards and specifications approved by the Ministry, with the vessels being locally manufactured.
Applications can be submitted electronically through the Ministry’s website or via Sanad offices. The Ministry urges all eligible parties to submit their applications within the given timeframe to ensure compliance with the regulations and to help support the sustainable development of Oman’s fishing sector.
