Muscat, 20 Feb: SalamAir, Oman’s leading low-cost airline, has announced plans to expand its fleet by adding 10 new Airbus A320 aircraft over the next three years. This move comes in response to the increasing demand for budget-friendly air travel.
To meet its ambitious growth targets for the next five years, SalamAir has placed formal requests with multiple aircraft leasing companies to acquire the additional planes. The expansion will allow the airline to introduce new domestic and regional routes, further strengthening Oman’s position as a key travel hub.
Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir, highlighted the airline’s successful return to its low-fare model, stating:
“Our focus on affordable travel has been highly successful, with strong demand exceeding our current capacity. Expanding our fleet will help us serve more passengers, stimulate Oman’s tourism sector, and introduce routes currently unserved by other airlines. Increased competition in the low-cost market will ultimately benefit travelers by driving down fares.”
In 2024, SalamAir carried over 3.2 million passengers, marking a 20% increase compared to 2023. The airline’s renewed emphasis on affordability has contributed significantly to its growing popularity among budget-conscious travelers.
As part of its fleet expansion, SalamAir will receive two new Airbus A321 aircraft in 2025, bringing its total fleet size to 15 aircraft. With the additional 10 A320s, the airline aims to operate 25 aircraft by 2028.
SalamAir’s strategic expansion is set to enhance connectivity, support Oman’s tourism sector, and provide more affordable travel options to passengers across the region.
