London, January 9 (ONA) – Wolverhampton Wanderers have finalized a £16.6 million deal to sign 27-year-old defender Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims.
The Ivory Coast international has committed to a four-and-a-half-year contract at Molineux, with an option for an additional year. This transfer marks the first signing under new manager Vitor Pereira.
Wolves had been pursuing a defensive addition following the sale of club captain Max Kilman to West Ham for £40 million last summer. They also faced a blow with the season-ending knee injury of Yerson Mosquera in September. This move ends their interest in Kevin Danso of Lens as they opted for Agbadou.
Agbadou has spent the past two-and-a-half years at Reims after transferring from Belgium’s KAS Eupen in 2022. During his time in Ligue 1, he made 76 appearances and scored three goals. He leaves Reims with the club positioned 11th in the league, trailing the top four by eight points.
Wolves, currently teetering just outside the Premier League relegation zone after a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, will look to strengthen their defense with Agbadou. The team has conceded the most goals in the league (45) but has also scored 31, the eighth-highest total.
The club will next play in the FA Cup third round against Bristol City on Saturday before facing Newcastle on January 15.
