Emirates halts flights to Beirut and Baghdad due to escalating regional tensions
Oman Horizon Bulletin
Emirates Airlines has declared that, due to security concerns, all flights to Baghdad will be suspended until November 30.
UAE: The airline said on its official website that passengers who are traveling through Dubai and have Baghdad as their ultimate destination are not permitted to board at their starting location. The Lebanese capital is the destination of similar travel restrictions for transiting passengers, and flights to and from Beirut have been canceled until December 31, 2024.
Passengers with confirmed bookings on Flydubai to Baghdad will be accommodated, though Emirates advised travelers to monitor Flydubai schedules for updates.
The cancellations come amid escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has seen airlines avoiding Iranian, Lebanese, and Iraqi airspace. This disruption follows the assassination of senior Hamas and Hezbollah figures and intensified strikes in Yemen and Gaza. The heightened tensions have forced carriers to repeatedly halt operations to the region since the outbreak of war in Gaza in October.
