Following a decision by the Salalah Court of First Instance, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) fined a furniture design firm and its agent in the Dhofar Governorate RO 2,500.

Muscat – The court found the company and its representative guilty of failing to provide services as agreed upon with a consumer and violating the terms of a contract.

As per a statement from the CPA, its Directorate General in Dhofar received a complaint from a consumer who had contracted the company to design and manufacture two sets of chairs for RO 1,000. Despite making an advance payment of RO 300, the company repeatedly delayed the delivery, exceeding the agreed-upon 45-day deadline. Furthermore, the company refused to refund the consumer’s advance payment.

The Authority referred the case to the judicial authorities as the company’s actions violated Articles 23 and 19 of the Consumer Protection Law. The court found the company’s representative guilty of failing to provide services in a manner consistent with their nature and fined him RO 2,000, along with a one-year prison sentence and deportation. Additionally, the company was fined RO 500 for non-compliance with the agreed-upon delivery timeline or refund policy.

The Consumer Protection Authority urges all suppliers and retailers to adhere to the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations to ensure fair and ethical business practices.
