How to obtain license to use Oman’s Quality Mark? Commerce ministry explains

Following the announcement of Quality Mark Regulation to improve the quality of products and services, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion has shared guidelines to obtain the requisite license.

Muscat – This new regulation focuses on improving the quality of products in both local and international markets, benefiting traders, consumers, and investors.

As per a notice from the Ministry, to obtain a license to use the Quality Mark, the establishment must submit an application to the Directorate on the designated form, after paying the required fee. The application should be attached with the following documents and conditions:

1. Proof of business establishment.
2. Evidence of a commercial agency issued by the manufacturer or product owner, and approved by the Ministry.
3. A certificate proving that the product meets the technical requirements of the relevant standards and regulations.
4. A proof of the presence of an effective quality management system covering the production line of the product to which the Omani Quality Mark will be applied. This system must comply with the requirements of a recognized quality management system, such as ISO 9001, or HACCP & FSSC 22000 for food products.
5. Test reports for the products requiring the Omani Quality Mark, issued by the granting authority.
6. A specification of the production quantity of the products to be marked, along with a final report certified by a legal accountant of the product’s annual sales.
7. Fulfilment of the requirements outlined in the grant procedure manual issued by the Directorate for each product category.
8. Determination of the location and size for the placement of the mark on the product, in agreement with the granting authority, before the usage license is issued.
9. Identification of the trade name (brand) for the products to be marked with the Omani Quality Mark.
   The Quality Mark Regulation is designed to organise the import, sale, and export of products while regulating the process for obtaining licenses to use the Quality Mark.
   This regulation is particularly aimed at ensuring that products entering the market are trustworthy, offering added assurance to consumers and investors that the goods they purchase or invest in meet stringent quality standards.
